The property contains 60 Hectares of mainly Jarrah/Marri in association with Blackbutt, Banksia and River Gum along the Blackwood River. There is a diversity of habitat, ranging from river flat to ironstone ridge. Barrabup Sanctuary started life in the early 70's when Glenn Orley purchased the property as the family hideaway, he soon had the idea to share the peace and tranquility with other like minded people and developed the Barrabup Tipi Village. This village was made up of three "American Indian" style Tipi's measuring 5 metres diameter and 7 metres tall. Made from heavy grade canvas, they could house approx 10 people in each. This Tipi Village continued into the late 70's as a secluded retreat. In the Eighties, the Tipi village moved out of vogue and it was run mainly as the family home, with small groups of visitors doing botanical and fauna walks around the sanctuary. In the mid 90's Barrabup Sanctuary was reborn as a Private Eco-camp ground and has evolved into the friendly and welcoming site that it is today. The Sanctuary and private camp grounds are run by Glenn Orley and he can be contacted at any time and is happy to answer any questions about the Sanctuary or camp grounds. Glenn is keen to encourage groups and clubs down for the weekend or even a whole week, so why not give him a call.

Though it was built in the late 1980’s, with all the modern comforts, Holberry House was inspired by the classic, two storey English manor. Downstairs, the guest lounge harks back to travellers’ lodge of the 19th Century, with its open fire, stone chimney and Chesterfield couch. The lounge opens onto a conservatory, where you can sit, warmed by the morning sun and listen to birds at play in the gardens.
